In this lesson I give you some tips on figuring out how to play a piano song by ear. Playing piano by ear does involve some knowledge of music theory, particularly harmony, melody, and key signatures. If you can figure out the song's key, you can figure out the chords that will likely be used. You can play the chords along with a recording to hear if they match. Try to figure out the melody by itself and then put both together. Knowledge of chord and interval sounds is very helpful. If you want a full step by step tutorial on this, let me know in the comments! This can be difficult for beginners, but with some practice and ear training it can become easy. Lastly, learning to improvise is helpful when figuring out songs by ear.
